THE GILDA SIX COLLECTION

This gallery of artistic works is but a small representation of the lifework of native North Carolina Artist Gilda Renfrow Six. Mrs. Six is an accomplished artist who has created, taught, and sold in the arts for over 45 years. She is at home in a number of mediums including oils, acrylics, mosaics, and block printing. Mrs. Six has displayed a versatility of style by painting landscapes, still lifes, abstracts, and portraits, creating greeting cards using block printing and also producing works of sculpture, tile and rock mosaic, stained glass, and pottery. The painting on the left is a master study by Mrs. Six of Leonardo Da Vinci's "Mona Lisa."

The painting on the right is Mrs. Six's master study of Rembrandt van Rijn's portrait of Jan Six, a distant ancestor of her husband, Walt.

Mrs. Six's artwork hangs in Schools, businesses, and private homes. In 1986, one of her major works, a 4' X 8' tile and rock mosaic, was placed in the Marine Corps Museum's Korean War Room in Parris Island, SC. The mosaic is dedicated to the veterans of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir in Korea, November - December 1950.

 Gilda Six is a graduate of Peace College, Raleigh, NC, studied at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, DC, and holds a BFA from Barton College, Wilson, NC. She is the wife of Walter E. Six, mother of three sons, and the daughter of the late James G. and Rachel S. Renfrow of Springhill Township, Wilson County, North Carolina.
