The Captain's Tale

A brief biography of Mark Six ... the original Captain Howdy

Captain Howdy did not enter the world as "the Captain" but was promoted at to that rank after attending a Monkees Concert in 1967.  He and his best friend (both 11 at the time) had gone to see this new guy named Jimi Hendrix, who happened to be opening for the Pre-fab 4 that night.  On the way back from the show, blown away by a show their pre-pubescent minds were trying to assimilate, they ran into a classmate who asked them what the show was like.  All he could think of when asked about Hendrix was an expression he had once heard in a John Wayne movie ...  "Boy Howdy!"  ... it seemed like the thing to say at the time.  His friend, still somewhat giddy from the show (and that funny cigarette with no name on it someone had been passing around) thought that was the funniest thing he had ever heard and christened our hero "Captain Howdy."  Recognizing a great title when he heard it he carried it from that day to this.  Sorta warms yer heart don't it?
I won't bore you with the story of my childhood.  I graduated from a small
community High School in rural North Carolina, then added insult to injury by attending a small, debt-ridden, Liberal Arts College in the middle of nowhere  - Saint Andrew's Presbyterian College - where I received a BA in Politics/Law.

Since graduating I have pursued a variety of career paths that are stunning in their scope, if not in financial reward.  I've been a disc jockey, police officer, college recruiter, construction worker and managed everything from Rock Bands to restaurants.

I have bounced drunks out of bars, interviewed the biggest names in Rock, interviewed with the CIA, been suspected of murder, signed autographs in the NFL, buried friends, fallen in love, and survived everything from drug abuse to major surgery.  To quote my brother's favorite band: "What a long, strange trip it's been!"

What a long, strange trip it's been !
